The traditional two year path to complete A Levels is well established and designed to give pupils the maximum amount of time to learn about each of their subject choices in depth and be prepared for getting good results at the end of this time frame. But what happens if you want to fast track that process and complete A Levels in one year?
There are several reasons why you may be considering this route:
Whichever scenario applies there are various ways of achieving the goal of A Levels in a year.
1. One to one tuition with a subject specialist
This can be a very efficient way of either retaking subjects or taking them for the first time. The schedule can be arranged around your commitments, you can have as much or as little input as you need and with a one to one specialist you can make very fast progress but also know that you will fully understand what you are being taught. Carfax Tutors has a wide range of experience in preparing and enrolling students for A Levels in a year.
2. Online A Levels
Several providers, post pandemic have come up with excellent online A Level offers. For example, Charterhouse online, newly launched this year offers a range of STEM subjects that are delivered both synchronously and asynchronously, allowing for face to face time and for students to do their own study. They also include 2 weeks on the Charterhouse campus in the spring break to complete practical tasks and to have an experience of what it is like to study in a British boarding school. Carfax College, in Oxford also offers a hybrid of online and in person A Levels with individual programmes that are tailor made for each student and their subject choices. The College is a registered exam centre so all exams can be taken there in the summer.
3. In-person residential
There are a wide range of colleges that specialize in running one year A level programmes. Traditionally, these will be offered as small group classes so they are very focused, with lots of support to make sure that the students can make the progress they need to. In this environment, they expect pupils to take more ownership of their learning than in a traditional school setting, so while there may be no uniform and a more relaxed teaching style the expectations are still high!
4. Foundation year
Another alternative is to consider taking a Foundation Year, this preparatory year will specialize in the subjects you need to study for the main degree and will end up being the equivalent of A Levels in terms of entry requirements to the university you choose. In many cases there is guaranteed entry to the university programme as long as you achieve their minimum grades.
